The SHOT show is where anyone involved in the Shooting, Hunting or Outdoor Trades goes to purchase inventory, show off, and get information on the newest products and network with contacts in the shooting industry. Over all SHOT show can be overwhelming since there are 12.5 miles of booths to see and this year’s show saw 67,000 attendees! Here I am with 5 time Olympic medalist Kim Rhodes, considered to be the
most successful female shooter at the Olympics...
most successful female shooter at the Olympics...
This was my 3rd time attending the SHOT show but 1st time representing Alpha Girls Academy. The largest change that I saw this year was the dynamic shift in retailers, gun manufacturers and outfitting agencies starting to market to women and designing with women’s needs in mind, not just slapping pink on a gun and voila- a gun for women! The NSSF (National Shooting Sport Foundation) states that the single largest growing marketing group in the shooting industry is women, making up 35%. So maybe we are seeing a predominately male industry and market start to listen to us roaring, gun-blazing women.
After walking the 13 acres of booths and seeing all the latest and greatest items that will hit the market this upcoming year I can say that women will certainly have more options. Glock, Ruger and Berretta have all introduced new, smaller size and caliber weapons designed for smaller hands and easier concealment. 5.11, Vertex and Propper have introduced more clothing items, in more colors designed just for women. Reebok is making a women’s boot, Voodoo Tactical is carrying a line of range gear and bags called “Lady Voodoo”. We like some of these products so well; we will be adding them to our pro-shop! So if you have ever been frustrated like us with the options available to you as a woman, get ready because the industry has finally started listening to the 35% and I expect to continue seeing this trend.
